Appeals and Grievances

Claremont McKenna College is committed to providing equal access to its programs, services and facilities in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990, Section 504 of the Federal Rehabilitation Act of 1973, and other applicable state and federal law prohibiting discrimination against individuals with disabilities.

The appeal and grievance procedure set forth below may be used by students with disabilities to resolve concerns regarding the determination of an accommodation request (academic or housing) and/or implementation of accommodations.

I. Informal Resolution
Students are encouraged to discuss the concern by scheduling a meeting with the Accessibility Services Office. If a resolution cannot be reached, the student will be directed to the formal complaint procedure. If the concern involves the accessibility coordinator, the student may proceed with reporting to Nyree Gray, Vice President for Human Relations and Chief Diversity Officer.

II. Formal Process
To submit a formal appeal and/or complaint, the student must file a written appeal to Nyree Gray, Vice President for Human Relations and Chief Diversity Officer within five (5) business days of the accommodation determination and/or implementation of the accommodation. The appeal should not exceed five (5) pages in length. Upon receipt of the appeal, the Chief Diversity Officer or designee will review all of the relevant information and provide a written response within five (5) business days granting the appeal and modifying the initial decision, or denying the appeal and maintaining the initial decision. The decision of the Chief Diversity Officer shall be final.

If you believe you have experienced discrimination on the basis of a disability, please refer to the College’s grievance procedures.
