More than 900 family members and friends flocked to campus February 17-19 to experience Claremont McKenna College through the eyes of their students, enjoying the opportunity to see faculty in action, hear President Hiram Chodosh review the College’s achievements and aspirations, and discover the programs that distinguish CMC.
At his Town Hall, President Chodosh presented the annual Jil Stark ’58 GP’11 Parent Volunteer Award to Robin and Bobby Lee P’24, with Stark providing the introduction. The award recognizes and honors CMC parents who have contributed in a meaningful way to the mission of the College. In addition, Allison Aldrich P’24, president of the CMC Parent Network Board, interviewed Chodosh during the Q&A portion of the program.
Families spent time together sampling a wide array of engaging activities, which included gaining an overview of the valuable services provided by the Soll Center for Student Opportunity, learning more about The Open Academy and its impact on our campus community in a lively discussion led by the program’s inaugural co-directors, Professors Heather Ferguson and Jon Shields, and joining Dr. Laura Catena P’24 for an enlightening Athenaeum discussion.
For some parents, the weekend provided an opportunity to pursue their own personal intellectual interests. Robert Jones P’26 attended President Chodosh’s Town Hall as well as The Open Academy Lunch and Learn session. He said he appreciates how “CMC students have ample access to open dialogue,” and sees Chodosh as a “leader in supporting the evolution of these ideas on campus.”
Overall, family members departed the weekend with a deeper understanding of their beloved CMCer’s campus life, as well as the power of the CMC community.
