The Claremont McKenna College Board of Trustees elected three new regular trustees in academic year 2022-23. The Board also elected three life trustees and a new alumna trustee for roles effective July 1.
The new regular trustees include Todd Barker '01, Steve Bullock '88 P'24, and Darrell Smith '74 P'00. The new alumna trustee is Stella Ho '97. Three former board members were named life trustees, including John Isaacson, elected as a regular trustee in 2013, Fred Prager P’99 P’01, elected as a regular trustee in 1998, and Christopher Walker ’69, elected as a regular trustee in 1992.

Barker is the co-founder, CEO, and CIO of Freestone Grove Capital, formed in February 2023. Prior to founding Freestone Grove Partners, Barker spent 17 years at Citadel. He joined the $38 billion firm in 2004 as an analyst and was appointed head of global equities primary strategies in 2005. In 2009, he was promoted to portfolio manager, and in 2012 was named regional co-head of global equities, San Francisco. Barker joined Surveyor Capital in 2016 and led the business for five years. Prior to joining Citadel, Barker served as a financial analyst for the investment banking and equity capital markets divisions of Goldman, Sachs & Co. He was elected to the Board in December 2022.
Bullock is the former Governor of Montana who ran for President of the United States in 2020. He has deep roots in public service. In 2008, Bullock was elected Attorney General of Montana, serving four years prior to being elected two terms as governor. He served as a 2021 fellow at the Institute of Politics at Harvard Kennedy School; he is currently the court-appointed monitor over Purdue Pharma and the chair of the Congressionally-authorized Foundation for America’s Public Lands. Bullock also serves on the board of Google Public Sector. He was elected to the Board in September 2022.
Smith is managing director of Darrell Smith, Inc., and currently works with U.S., Caribbean, and African clients on business development needs in the media, finance, and NGO fields. He was the vice president of strategic development and marketing for the Africa Channel and worked with the organization from 2005 to 2015. He currently serves on the Board of Trustees for Quantum-Veritas International University Systems and Educating Young Minds. He was the CMC Alumni Association President from 1994‐95 and was an alumnus trustee from 1999‐2002. He was elected to the Board in April 2023.
Ho is a partner, chief financial officer, and chief compliance officer at LightBay Capital, a Los Angeles-based private equity firm. She has more than 20 years of experience in the financial services industry, previously serving as a senior vice president in the Business Management Group at Moelis & Company, associate director in the Investment Banking Division at UBS Investment Bank, and senior associate in the Financial Advisory Services Group at PricewaterhouseCoopers.
