What once was a pile of dirt is now a spectacular, award-winning building for Claremont McKenna College. The new academic and administrative Kravis Center has won the award for Best Higher Education/Research Project in the United States, as well as the award for Best Overall Project in the California region in 2011. The awards were presented by Engineering News Record (ENR), a McGraw Hill publication devoted to the commercial design, engineering and construction industry.
In a Best of the Best award wrap-uphttp://enr.construction.com/toplists/best-projects/2011/>, the publication's website had this to say about CMC's new Kravis Center: Using a striking design by prominent architect Rafael Vi?oly, the $56-million, 169,000-sq-ft academic and administration complex on the campus of a private liberal-arts college in eastern Los Angeles has remastered the notion of a world-class building.
"Everyone is extremely proud of these two honors," CMC's director of construction Frank Perri said.
