Women & Leadership WorkshopOffered by KLI, Berger and RDS

The Berger Institute for Work, Family and Children, the Kravis Leadership Institute, and the Robert Day School of Economics and Finance will be hosting a Women and Leadership Workshop on February 25th from 9am 1pm in the CMC Founders Room and the Marian Miner Cook Athenaeum.
The workshop is part of the Women and Leadership Series which began in the fall of 2010. As a joint endeavor to support and promote student programs at Claremont McKenna College that will highlight issues faced by women in leadership in business, government and the professions, the Women and Leadership Series is also designed to draw attention to the centennial celebration of International Women's Day on March 8, 2011. The Kravis Leadership Institute, the Berger Institute for Work, Family, and Children, the Office of Development, the Robert Day School of Economics and Finance, the Marian Miner Cook Athenaeum, the Dean of Students Office and Claremont Graduate University are co-coordinating the series.
The half-day workshop on February 25th is designed to support upper level female students during their time of preparation for post-graduation opportunities and employment, allowing them to connect with each other and successful women leaders representing various fields of endeavor. This event is in direct response to an expressed need by recent students for support and information from experienced female leaders as they leave the college world and move into the professions.
The goals of this workshop are to create a safe, nonjudgmental environment for discussion and dialogue; expose students to the experiences of female professionals in various fields; forge relationships between students and professionals, across disciplines and generations; and provide theoretical information and practical advice about being a female leader. Students will participate in three 30 minute sessions during which they will interact with invited female leaders to discuss the experiences of being a female leader in a specified field.
Following the workshop, there will be an inspirational lunch presentation in the Athenaeum to wrap-up the morning's events and welcome staff and faculty into the discussion of women and leadership. The keynote speaker, Dr. Lois Frankel, will present material from her recent book See Jane Lead which will be used to guide the lunch program with emphasis on what it means to be a woman leader and the unique challenges faced in the workplace and personally.
