Village Welcome Night Set for Friday, Sept. 17

The First Annual College Student Welcome Night and Jazz at the Depot will take place on Friday, Sept. 17, from 6 to 8:30 p.m. in the Village. The evening is free and open to all Claremont Colleges students, faculty, and staff, as well as the Claremont community. Free shuttle service will be provided beginning at 5:30 p.m. at Dartmouth and 12th streets and Mills and Ninth.

Village stores will stay open late, with more than 30 participating merchants offering free food, product samples, and raffles, from ice cream and empanadas, to yoga classes and clothing. A list of participating stores and maps will be available at information tables at Shelton Park beginning at 6 p.m. Music at the Depot will be offered by local groups including Pomona College's Boys Howdy, and Knick-Knack Jazz of Claremont High School.

"We hope this event will start a new tradition, bringing the students of The Claremont Colleges together with those of us in the Village and the City of Claremont, for a festive kick-off to the new school year," said Brent Hunter, owner of Bert & Rocky's Ice Cream Company and chair of College Student Welcome Night.

The event is sponsored by the Village Marketing Group, the Claremont Chamber of Commerce, the City of Claremont, and Fairplex Pomona, which is providing free shuttle service. For additional information contact the Chamber offices at 909-624-1681.
