Students Host Debate Party/Analysis Oct. 13

Claremont McKenna College students, ranked by Princeton Review as the nation's Most Politically Active campus, will host a Presidential Debate Watching Party at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 13, at The Hub at Emett Student Center, located on the CMC campus, 390 East Ninth Street. Viewing of the televised Presidential debates will be followed by post-debate student commentary and analysis by Democrats of the Claremont Colleges, Claremont Republicans, and The Claremont Colleges Debate Union.

The event, to include students of both major political parties as well as several delegates to the summer conventions, concludes a series of community debate-watching parties hosted at CMC and at neighboring campuses. Organizers are hopeful the events will establish a campus-wide, debate-watching tradition during future election seasons.

"CMC students have always wanted to organize debate-watching parties on campus," says Democrats of the Claremont Colleges' Taryn Benarroch '05. "Our students are completely passionate about this election."

Rob Carpenter '06, head of the Republicans of The Claremont Colleges and an RNC delegate, says the events are designed to foster good dialogue among students, "to show that you can have a debate on the issues with people who don't share the same positions, and still be friends when it's over."
