Lockdown Drill

Claremont McKenna College has preparedness plans in place to guard the safety of its students, faculty, and staff. Regular drills are critical to insuring that members of the CMC community regularly practice procedures that could potentially save lives. During the week of March 22, there will be an Emergency Lockdown Drill, scheduled to last 10 minutes. Please be prepared for this event by reviewing and following these simple guidelines: In the Classroom: (Watch video).
Notification of the lockdown drill will occur through text, a phone call, or the sounding of air horns.
Lock: Secure the classroom door by either pulling a lever located in the green box (Bauer Center) or use the thumb-turn knobs (Roberts North & South) to lock the doors.
Conceal: Direct the class to sit on the floor away from windows and the door. Turn off any lights and close the curtains/blinds if possible.
Wait: Do not open the door. Wait for notification that it is safe. Notification will come through a telephone call, text message, or rescue personnel. In the Office: Notification of the lockdown drill will occur through text, a phone call, or the sounding of air horns.
Move to Safety: Immediately move to the closest safe room. If that is not possible, lock your office door or move into a room with a locking door. (If you do not know where your Safe Room is located, ask your building coordinator.)
Conceal: Stay low to the ground and away from windows and doors. Turn off any lights and close the curtains/blinds if possible.
Wait: Do not open the door. Wait for notification that it is safe. Notification will come through a telephone call, text message, or rescue personnel. In the Residence Halls: Notification of the lockdown drill will occur through text, a phone call, or the sounding of air horns.
Lock: Immediately close and lock your door or move to a room with a door that locks.

As you know, lockdown procedures are necessary for a variety of unpleasant reasons, including attacks by armed assailants or hazardous material incidents. While drills are an inconvenience, it is important to take participation in this drill calmly and seriously.
