The Reed Institute for Decision Science will co-sponsor The Southern California Chapter of the American Statistical Association's Fall Kickoff on Saturday, Nov. 6, at Claremont McKenna Collegea daylong event featuring guest speaker Bradley Efron, the Max H. Stein Professor of Humanities and Sciences and professor of statistics at Stanford University.
The event, scheduled from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., will include presentations from the University of California, Riverside, and the University of California, Los Angeles, as well as a poster session providing three, $100 awards for high school, undergraduate, and graduate categories.
Guest speaker Efron is renowned internationally for his pioneering work in computationally intensive statistical methods. He is a member of the National Academy of Sciences and is president of the American Statistical Association. His lecture, Bayesians, Frequentists, and Modern Science, begins at 2 p.m. in Bauer Forum.
Pre-registration fees for the kickoff are $10 for students and $25 for non-students, and include lunch. Late registration is $35 at the door.
