Raza Ahmad '04 PresentsOmnivorous Kind and the Stages of Life

Raza Ahmad '04 will present his play, Omnivorous Kind and the Stages of Life, at 9 p.m. on March 6, 7, and 8 in the Large Studio of Seaver Theatre at Pomona College.

Ahmad, who wrote and directed the play, says it “manages to communicate about issues of power at multiple levels in our world today, without actually raising any issues directly.” While Ahmad has had an interest in theatre since he was a child in Islamabad, Pakistan, and starred in the complex role of twins in the campus production of Ring Around the Moon last October. He has also appeared in campus productions of Macbeth and A Streetcar Named Desire.

Studying Theatre and Literature, with a Leadership Studies sequence, Ahmad plans to take the theatre and leadership experience he gains here back to Pakistan, bringing theatre to those who have never experienced it, and to use theatre as a medium for social change. He is co-founder of Lagan, an organization using activist street theatre to bring social awareness about issues in Pakistan.

Ahmad calls his upcoming play “a good piece of art,” saying, “It just needs to be taken for what it is.” He says he hopes audience members will experience the play for themselves, and gather their own conclusions about the play's meaning. “I believe that if people come to this,” he says, “they will not leave unmoved.”

Tickets are $4 at the door. For additional information call Seaver Theater at 621-8186.
