Professor Edward Haley's op-ed, The Way Forward in Iraq, appears in the Dec. 5 issue of the San Francisco Chronicle (http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?file=/chronicle/archive/2006/12/05/EDGHULJ53H1.DTL).
"More and more Democrats want American troops out of Iraq," writes Haley, the W.M. Keck Foundation Chair of International Strategic Studies, "and when the Iraq Study Group presents its report Wednesday, it is expected to call for a major drawdown of U.S. troops and direct talks with Syria and Iran about the future of Iraq and the entire region."
Haley is the author of Strategies of Dominance: The Misdirection of U.S. Foreign Policy (Johns Hopkins University /Woodrow Wilson Center Presses, 2006). Last June he served as a panelist for a discussion in Washington, D.C., on Can Foreign Aid Help Win the War on Terror? exploring such topics as long-term political and economic transformation of the Middle East as a cornerstone of the current administration's national security strategy.
This spring, Haley will travel to Israel to conduct interviews at the Harry S Truman Institute for the Advancement of Peace for his forthcoming book, Israel and the United States since 9/11.
Haley is Chairman of the International Relations Program at CMC, a senior research associate at the Keck Center for International and Strategic Studies, and a graduate of Stanford University. He received his Ph.D. from Johns Hopkins University.
