Gordon Bjork, the Jonathan B. Lovelace Professor of Economics, has been appointed to the National Advisory Council on Environmental Policy and Technology of the Environmental Protection Agency. Bjork, the only economist on the council, is also the only representative from California.
NACEPT members represent a wide range of interests and provide advice to the EPA on a variety of programs and policies. The Council oversees standing subcommittees working on high-priority EPA topics and advises the agency on emerging trends and issues.
A member of the Claremont McKenna College faculty for 27 years, Bjork has authored a book on the economics and politics of land use planning and environmental issues, as well as professional articles on the economics of water. His latest book, The Way It Worked and Why It Won't: Structural Change and the Slowdown in U.S. Economic Growth, explores reasons why U.S. economic growth will slow in the current century for reasons associated with changes in demographics and the composition of the output of goods and services.
