Polish Theater ensemble Teatr Provisorium will be on campus Thursday, Oct. 28, to perform a play based on Witold Gombrowicz's 1937 novel Ferdydurke, a tale that writer Susan Sontag described in her forward of the translated version, "extravagant, brilliant, disturbing, brave, funny . . . wonderful." The performance, to be held in McKenna Auditorium, begins at 7 p.m. and is free and open to the public. Seating is available on a first-come basis.
Ferdydurke, regarded as a masterpiece of European modernism, was banned in Gombrowicz's native Poland for several decades, although it catapulted the young author to fame. In it, character Joey Kowalski narrates the story of his transformation from a 30-year-old man into a teenage boy.
Provisorium members are: Robert Zgiet, Jaroslaw Tomica, Leon Brzenzinski, Piotr Szamryk, Janusz Oprynski, and Witold Mazurkiewicz.
