No Apology: The Case for
American Greatness;
Mitt Romney Visits April 15

Former governor of Massachusetts Mitt Romney, who was a candidate for the Republican nomination in the 2008 U.S. presidential election, will visit Claremont McKenna College on Thursday, April 15. His dinner lecture, "No Apology: The Case for American Greatness," is named for his most recent book, released earlier this year by St. Martin's Press. Seating in the Marian Miner Cook Athenaeum for the dinner and Romney's discussion will be restricted to CMC community members only. However, overflow seating will be provided in McKenna Auditorium where his lecture and discussion will be broadcast via live video feed.
As part of his visit to CMC, Romney will be the featured speaker during a luncheon in Costa Mesa earlier that day, hosted by the Res Publica Board of Governors and Claremont McKenna College. For reservation information or for questions, please contact the Res Publica office: 909-607-0037, or e-mail respublica.events@cmc.edu.
Romney is a former Republican governor of Massachusetts, CEO of Bain & Company, and co-founder of Bain Capital. He successfully organized and steered the 2002 Winter Olympics as president and CEO of the Salt Lake Organizing Committee. In 2008, he was a leading candidate for the Republican presidential nomination and distinguished himself as an important voice in favor of strengthening the economy, military, and families.
Romney earned a bachelor's degree with highest honors from Brigham Young University and was awarded an MBA from Harvard Business School, and where he was named a Baker Scholar. He also earned a J.D., cum laude, from Harvard Law School. He and his wife, Ann, have five sons, five daughters-in-law, and 12 grandchildren.
His new book, The Case for American Greatness, details his vision for America, including foreign policy and domestic issues, and was reportedly written over a six-month period between visits to his office in Lexington, Mass., and his beachside home near San Diego.
Drawing on history for lessons on how great powers collapse, Romney offers an explanation for the reasons our national advantages have eroded. From the long-term decline of America's manufacturing base, the publisher notes, " our laggard educational system that has left us without enough engineers, scientists, and other skilled professionals, our corrupted financial practices that led to the current crisis, and the crushing impact of entitlements on our future obligations, America is in debt, overtaxed, and unprepared for the challenges it must face." The Pacesetters Fellowship Program is the culmination of the hard work and dedication of alumni from the classes of 1948, 1949, and 1950 the Pacesetters. Governor Mitt Romney is CMC's 11th Pacesetter Fellow.
