More than 275 of CMC's new students rallied together for an afternoon of work at a local park last weekend, raking playground sand, repainting basketball blacktops and park benches, picking up trash and removing weeds, and hosing down and painting restrooms. The beautification projectheld Saturday, Aug. 28 at El Barrio Park on Claremont Boulevardwas the College's 11th annual New Student Community Service Project.
Assistant Director of Career Services Beth Ricca said CMCers, including resident assistants and freshman class sponsors, walked to the park from Sixth Street and Mills Avenue, and worked to restore the grounds and its facilities. The site was designated by the city, which also provided some of the equipment and paint.
Volunteers were treated afterward to frozen yogurt donated by 21 Choices. "They've just been wonderful and terrific to us," Ricca says of the local business. "And it seems to be a great incentive to get the students to work!"
