Marion Preest Named Interim Dean W.M. Keck Science Department

 

To The Claremont Colleges Community:

CMC President Hiram E. Chodosh and Pitzer President Laura Skandera Trombley join me in announcing the appointment of Marion Preest, professor of biology, as the Interim Weinberg Family Dean of the W.M. Keck Science Department of Claremont McKenna, Pitzer, and Scripps Colleges.

The appointment is effective July 1, 2014 and continues through June 30, 2015.  Dr. Preest will serve in the position while Dean David Hansen is on sabbatical during the 2014-15 academic year.

Dr. Preest joined Scripps and the Joint Science Department in 1999, having previously served in faculty, teaching, research, and consulting positions at the University of Miami, the University of San Diego, Cornell University, Otago University, and Hubbs Marine Research Center.  Her research interests include comparative, integrative, and environmental physiology of vertebrates. She earned her Ph.D. and master’s at Cornell University and holds a B.Sc. from the University of Otago, New Zealand.

At Scripps, Dr. Preest is a two-time recipient of the Mary W. Johnson Faculty Achievement Award for Scholarship, in 2004 and 2006. She also has received Faculty Research Grants from Scripps, Pitzer, CMC, and the Claremont Colleges’ W.M. Keck Research Grant.
