The photo exhibit Love Makes a Family: Portraits of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Parents and Their Families, will open on Monday, Oct. 11 in McKenna Auditorium with a reception from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Light refreshments will be served, and the reception is free and open to the public.
The exhibit, featuring a collection of images appearing in the book of the same name (University of Massachusetts Press Amherst), reflects the entire work of photographer Gigi Kaeser, as it appears in the book, depicting a variety of gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender people and their families. Also included in the display will be excerpts from interviews that Love editor Peggy Gillespie conducted with family members.
Family Diversity Projects of Amherst, the nonprofit educational organization that created Love Makes a Family, has brought the exhibit to more than 1,000 communities nationwide since 1996.
The exhibit at McKenna auditorium continues through Friday, Oct. 15, and is sponsored by The Dean of Students Office at CMC, with support from the James Irvine Foundation, the Marian Miner Cook Athenaeum, and the Office of Student Activities.
Additional viewing times following Monday's reception are: noon to 5 p.m. on Oct. 12, 13 and 15, and from 2 to 5 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 15.
