Leading the Next Generation

The Kravis Leadership Institute (KLI) is hosting its first Women and Leadership Workshop on Friday, April 9. Participants will have the opportunity to dialogue with the nine female leaders who will share their experiences in the workplace and discuss leadership challenges and strategies to overcome them.
The half-day workshop is divided into three events: a panel presentation featuring research about women and leadership; small roundtable discussions with women leaders in the fields of finance, government, education, religion, science, and more; and a luncheon with keynote presentation featuring Jean Lipman-Blumen, Thornton F. Bradshaw Professor of Public Policy and professor of organizational behavior at the Peter F. Drucker and Masatoshi Ito Graduate School of Management at the Claremont Graduate University. Lipman-Blumen will present the concept of Connective Leadership and how to manage in a changing world.
"Despite women's progress in many arenas, they still face many challenges," said Sarah Smith Orr, interim executive director of KLI. "This workshop was designed to allow women students to interact in open dialogue with women who have distinguished themselves as leaders in their professions. KLI is committed to providing a forum of learning for our students to better equip themselves to become leaders in their chosen fields. We are very excited to bring this level of engagement and learning to female students across the Claremont campuses."
Invited leaders include Nancy Baxter, senior philanthropic investment manager, Wells Fargo; Meredith Brenholdt '98, former senior manager of private equity and retail/consumer products and practices and consultant, Bain & Company, Inc., Bain International; Barbara DeHart, director, Urban Leadership Program, School of Educational Studies at Claremont Graduate University, Karen Higgins, President, Elan Leadership Concepts and adjunct professor, Claremont Graduate University; Constance Rossum P'01 P'08, president, Management Directives, Inc.; Sonia Lagomarsino, PSBtraining for financial professionals; Ursula Mentjes, founder, Sales Coach Now; Molly Schmid, professor, Keck Graduate Institute of Applied Sciences; and Karen Torjensen, the Margo L.
