Day on Nov. 2

"Lifting Our Leadership" is the focus of Leadership Day scheduled for Monday, Nov. 2. Sponsored by the Kravis Leadership Institute (KLI), this event is designed to provide experiential leadership development and leadership education for the CMC community.
This year, KLI is pleased to welcome leadership specialists Gregg Vanourek '92 and his father, Bob Vanourek P'92, to campus to facilitate a collection of interactive events that will lift the leadership knowledge and skills of CMC students, staff, and faculty to the next level. The day will include a luncheon workshop on creating a vision for life, a joint session with Deloitte Consulting LLP, and an Athenaeum presentation on creating great leadership organizations.
"The goal of Leadership Day 2009 is to provide participants an opportunity to reflect on how they want to use their leadership responsiblyhow to lift their life and community to a higher levelwhile learning practical information about leadership theory and practice from seasoned leaders," said coordinator Jessica Briggs '03, assistant director for leadership programs at KLI. "During the two workshops, participants will interact with the facilitators and each other in ways that will stimulate new thought, encourage hope, and develop connections between participants."
Gregg Vanourek '92 is the founding partner of New Mountain Ventures, a personal leadership development firm, and is co-author of Life Entrepreneurs: Ordinary People Creating Extraordinary Lives (2008) and Charter Schools in Action: Renewing Public Education (2000). He also serves on the board of the Vail Leadership Institute. Bob Vanourek P'92 is a retired chief executive who specializes in applying ethical principles to turnaround crisis situations. Since 2000, his focus has been on leadership development and volunteer work. The senior Vanourek is chairman emeritus of the Vail Leadership Institute.

Gregg Vanourek '92 and Bob Vanourek P'92 will share information they gathered while interviewing people in 50 organizations in the for-profit and not-for-profit sectors about values-based leadership. These organizations included Google, GE, Xerox, Procter & Gamble, and Ashoka. Books will be available for purchase and signing after the presentation.
