CMC to Participate in California ShakeOut Earthquake Drill - Oct. 21

On Thursday, October 21 Claremont McKenna College will participate in one of the largest, coordinated earthquake drills in the nation. To date, more than 7 million people including CMCare planning to participate in the drill and to practice carrying out their emergency plans.

The ShakeOut drill will take place Thursday morning at an unannounced time and is based on a scenario involving a magnitude 7.8 earthquake along the San Andreas Fault.

Claremont McKenna College has a well-defined emergency preparedness plan, and the Incident Management Team and volunteers will be simulating emergency situations and challenges. On Thursday, CMC students, faculty, and staff are asked to take the following steps:

STUDENTS Evacuate to your designated evacuation area when you receive a Connect-ED message or direction from a RA or faculty member. Evacuation areas are designated with a number corresponding to your building number. Please refer to the map below and identify your evacuation point PRIOR to the drill.
Report to your RA, professor, or Building Coordinator (wearing colored vest) in your area.
Please follow all instructions and do not leave the area until you are released.

FACULTY IN THE CLASSROOM Evacuate your class when you receive a Connect-ED message.
Grab the Emergency Action Guide packet from the wall of your classroom. This packet contains emergency preparedness information, an evacuation map, and class lists.
Go to designated evacuation area. Evacuation areas are designated with a number corresponding to your building number. Please refer to the map below and identify your evacuation point PRIOR to the drill.
Use the class list from the Emergency Action Guide to account for all students. Please add names of anyone in your group that is not on the list.
Report to the Building Coordinator (wearing colored vest) in your area. Please give them your completed class list.
Please follow all instructions and do not leave the area until you are released.

Evacuation areas are designated with a number corresponding to your building number. Please refer to the map below and identify your evacuation point PRIOR to the drill.
