Claremont McKenna College is hosting “Homeland Security at the Local Level,” a conference on the role local governments play in the fight against terrorism. The half-day event is Friday, March 24, from 8 a.m. – noon at McKenna Auditorium at Claremont McKenna College (CMC).
The conference is presented by CMC’s Inland Empire Center for Economics and Public Policy, a joint venture of the Rose Institute of State and Local Government and the Lowe Institute of Political Economy.
The conference’s keynote speaker is Eli Owen, Deputy Commander of the California State Threat Assessment Center (STAC) in the Governor’s Office of Emergency Services (Cal OES).
The conference also will feature two panels. The first panel, Readiness: Coordination, Information Sharing, and Preparation, will feature Robert Bunker of the Strategic Studies Institute; Stephen Woolery, FBI Special Agent in Charge of Counterterrorism in Los Angeles; and Ramon Leon of the Riverside County Emergency Management Department. The second panel, Response: Lessons Learned from San Bernardino, will feature San Bernardino Chief of Police Jarrod Burguan, San Bernardino County Assistant Sheriff Steve Higgins, and Jim Bueermann, president of the Police Foundation.
The conference invites the region’s local public safety officials, elected officials, business leaders, and The Claremont Colleges community to learn more about this vital topic.
