Biszantz Family Tennis Center
wins USTA Facility Award

The United States Tennis Association (USTA) recently announced the Biszantz Family Tennis Center at CMC as one of seven winners of its 29th annual USTA Facility Awards Program. The award recognizes excellence in construction and/or renovation of tennis facilities throughout the country.
Construction on the Biszantz Family Tennis Center began in 2008, and the facility was dedicated and opened for match play in January 2009. The state-of-the-art training and competititon center, considered one of the finest in collegiate tennis, features 12 lit competition courts, an observation deck, permanent seating at each court, locker rooms, team room/classroom, and an intramural grass playing field. The tennis center was the host site for the 2009 NCAA Men's Team and Individual Tennis Championship, and will host the NCAA Men's and Women's Team and Individual Tennis Championships in May 2011.
"The Biszantz Family Tennis Center has gone above and beyond to create a superior tennis experience for their patrons and community at large," said Kurt Kamperman, Chief Executive, Community Tennis, USTA. "We are proud to honor each of their achievements and applaud their devotion to the sport."
Gary Biszantz attended the awards presentation in New York City Sept. 5, and received a marble wall plaque and an all-weather sign, which will be hung at the facility.
This is not the Center's first award. In May 2010, the Biszantz Family Tennis Center received an Excellence in Design Award from the Claremont Architectural Commission, in the category of New Construction and Sustainable Landscaping. The Excellence in Design Award Program is designed to recognize and encourage high quality design projects. The Biszantz Family Tennis Center also won the 2009 Outdoor Tennis Facility of the Year Award presented by the American Sports Builders Association.
"The USTA Facility Award is a significant award for the tennis center and the college, recognizing both for their commitment to growing and showcasing tennis at the recreational and elite levels," stated CMS Men's tennis head coach Paul Settles. "We will continue to feature the tennis center as a site for teaching, watching, and playing this great sport."
