Author and Economist Paul Krugman Visits Oct. 13

Paul Krugman, professor of economics and international affairs at Princeton University, columnist for The New York Times, and author of such books as The Great Unraveling: Losing Our Way in the New Century (2003) and The Return of Depression Economics (2000), will visit the Marian Miner Cook Auditorium on Wednesday, Oct. 13. His lecture begins at 6:45 p.m. and is free and open to the public.

Krugman, who has been writing for the Times' Op-Ed Page since 1999, is widely known for his work in international trade and finance. He is one of the founders of the "new trade theory," a major rethinking of the theory of international trade. In recognition of that work, the American Economic Association awarded him its John Bates Clark medal in 1991, for "that economist under 40 who is adjudged to have made a significant contribution to economic knowledge."

Krugman also has written for broader public audiences in publications including Fortune, USA Today, The Washington Post, Harvard Business Review, and Scientific American. He is the author or editor of 20 books and more than 200 papers in professional journals and edited volumes. A new book co-written with Robin Wells, Microeconomics (Worth Publishers), is due out this fall.

He earned his bachelor's degree from Yale University and a Ph.D. from MIT, and has taught at Yale, Stanford, and MIT, where he became the Ford International Professor of Economics. Krugman also spent a year on the staff of the Council of Economic Advisors in 1982-83.
