Abstract: The article is a summary of the data and its interpretation of the California’s Employment Development Department’s (EDD) employment report for October 2023. The headline numbers show the region’s unemployment rate increasing by 0.2 percentage points, jumping from 4.9% to 5.1% in October. When labor force increases outpace employment increases, e.g. more people (re)joining the labor force, we see an increase in the unemployment rate, as is the case currently for the Inland Empire.
