At the January 2002 National Meeting of the Mathematical Association of America held in San Diego Professor Martelli organized the Student Poster Session. There were 82 posters presented by students from across the country. Each poster was judge by three mathematicians on the basis of mathematical content, poster organization, and presenter's performance in answering questions.

Three CMC mathematics students received awards: Carrie Staples and Cameron Pinkley won for their presentation on the Flat Roof problem and Sarah Awat won for her presentation the Statistical Analysis of Combined Deterministic and Random Change. Both groups conducted their research at CMC during the summer of 2001 under the guidance of Professor Martelli and Prodessor Myhre. respectively.
