Impact Stories

Jefferson Chang ‘22

Claremont is only about 10 miles from Chang’s hometown, but arriving on the CMC campus quickly opened a new world to him. Chang’s parents are Chinese immigrants, and he grew up in a predominantly Asian community.

“CMC is truly incredible—the people here are not only ambitious but also curious,” he said. “Students here are constantly learning and trying to solve problems.”

Chang credits his experience interning with Teach for America in Atlanta and Infosys in Bangalore—with transforming him. “I am constantly looking for opportunities to take me out of my bubble,” said Chang. “The Student Internship and Experiences Program allowed me to travel to different cities in India during my internship, and I was able to immerse myself in India’s culture and learn about its history and traditions. Seeing poverty at that scale for the first time was hands down the most humbling experience of my life.”

Currently the chief of staff of MyMask Movement, a healthtech AI startup that he co-founded, Chang hopes to pursue a career in the healthcare supply chain, either in digital manufacturing or operations. He also hopes to start a nonprofit that supplies medical kits and supplies to third world countries.

He finds the community at CMC to be inspiring. “Every CMC student wants to do something impactful after graduating from CMC,” he said. “I want to keep seeing more of the world and figure out how I might do something to improve it.”
