Claremont McKenna College has been recognized as a “Top Producing Institution” of Fulbright U.S. Students for 2024-2025.
According to the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, CMC is among the nation’s top colleges and universities with the highest number of students selected for the Fulbright U.S. Student Program. For the past 15 years, CMC has consistently been named a “Top Producing Institution.”
Six members of CMC’s Class of 2024 and two alumni were awarded esteemed Fulbright grants in June, including Liann Bielicki ’24, Angélica Campos ’20, Nathalie Chavez ’23, Annabelle Duflock ’24, Joelle Min ’24, Emily Ortiz ’24, Adarsh Srinivasan ’24, and Shay Suresh ’24.
From carbon cap projects in Southeast Asia to teaching posts in Europe, the cohort represents CMC’s varied aspirations and interests. The students and alumni share strong interests in cross-cultural exchange, research, study, or teaching opportunities overseas, said Yi Shun Lai ’96, CMC’s Assistant Director of Fellowships Advising.
“The distinction is a testament to the College’s deep commitment to international affairs, and to building strong cultural connections between the people of the United States and people from nations around the world,” said Lai.
Since 1946, when the Fulbright Program was established, 114 CMC students and alumni have earned Fulbright Scholarships. In this year’s award cycle, CMC has 17 students listed as semi-finalists.
The Fulbright Program is the U.S. government’s flagship international academic exchange program. Since its founding, the Fulbright Program has provided over 400,000 students, scholars, teachers, artists, and professionals of all backgrounds with the opportunity to study, teach, and conduct research abroad. Fulbrighters exchange ideas, build people-to-people connections, and work to address complex global challenges.
“Fulbright’s unique structure provides both cultural exchange and an opportunity for CMC students to contribute to the world in meaningful ways of their own design,” said Lai. “Even the application process itself is a valuable step toward helping our students articulate their goals and aspirations.”
Fulbright is a program of the U.S. Department of State, with funding provided by the U.S. Government. Participating governments and host institutions, corporations, and foundations around the world also provide direct and indirect support to the program.
