Work-Family Balance Focus Of Kravis-de Roulet Conference

Leadership in issues of work and family balance will be the focus of the 13th annual Kravis - de Roulet Conference on Saturday, Feb. 22. Co-sponsored by CMC's Kravis Leadership Institute and the Berger Institute for Work, Family and Children, the conference will examine public policy on work-family balance issues at the state and national level.

The day-long conference and luncheon will be free to all students and faculty of The Claremont Colleges. Scholarships and classroom discounts are available to all other students and faculty.

Topics will include corporate responsibility to working parents, consequences of welfare reform, working parent burnout, and childcare and equality. Speakers include: Bruce Bell of the U.S. Army Research Institute; Wayne Cascio, professor of management at the University of Colorado, Denver; Ellen Galinsky, president of Families and Work Institute; author and journalist Maggie Jackson; Lynn Karoly, RAND director of labor and population program; Christina Maslach, professor of psychology at the University of California, Berkeley; Paul Orfalea, founder of Kinko's Inc.; and Faith Wohl, president of the Child Care Action Campaign.

Panels include:

* Leadership in Work/Life Corporate Policy, led by Donna Klein of Marriott International, V. Sue Molina of Deloitte & Touche, LLP, Phyllis Stewart Pires of Cisco, and Betty Purkey of Texas Instruments Incorporated.

* Perspectives on work and Family Life: The Contributions of Social Science Research led by Nigel Boyle of the European Union Center of California, Bob Drago, professor of labor studies at Pennsylvania State University, Diane Halpern of the Berger Institute for Work, Family, and Children, Candice Lange of Eli Lilly and Company, and Dianne Maranto of the American Psychological Association.

The Kravis-de Roulet conference will take place from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 22, in the Mary Pickford Auditorium. Early registration fee is $40 and includes the conference luncheon. Admission is free to all Claremont Colleges students and faculty, with scholarships and classroom discounts available to others.
