John-Clark Levin '12 is at it again. Breaking the the Guinness World Record for longest handshake last year with classmate George Posner '12 (read story) was not enough. Nor was his first byline with the Wall Street Journal this summer (read story), while working there as an intern.
No, he wanted more. Last month Levin earned another byline for the WSJ on "How I Set (and Temporarily Lost) a World Record." In the Opinion piece, Levin chronicles the process he and Posner went through preparing for the record breaking attempt, battling obstacles like sweat and the coordination of simultaneous arm pumping. The attempt was successful 10 hours, 10 minutes and 10 seconds of continuous hand shaking.
Yet after hours of preparation and actual hand shaking, Levin and Posner's record has now been broken by two Nepalese brothers shaking for over 19 hours. So, Levin is contemplating whether to try again.
A rising junior, Levin is the winner of the 2010 Eric Breindel Collegiate Journalism Award. After joining the staff of The Claremont Independentthe journal of conservative and libertarian political thought at The Claremont Collegeshe rose to managing editor in his freshman year and was named editor-in-chief at the start of his sophomore year. In addition, he also conducts research for CMC's Salvatori Center for the Study of Individual Freedom in the Modern World.
The Breindel award honors the work of a columnist, editorial writer, or other scribe whose work best reflects Eric Breindel's own patriotic spirit and democratic ideas.
