Colleges-wide Blood Drive Set for April 18 at HMC

The City of Hope will hold its ninth annual, Colleges-wide Blood/Bone Marrow Drive from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Friday, April 18 in the Green Room at Platt Campus Center, Harvey Mudd College.

Appointments, scheduled in 20-minute increments, are required in advance, and may be made up until the day before the event. This is an opportunity to give much-needed blood and/or be listed in the National Marrow Donor Program (NMDP), a registry that is used throughout the world.

To schedule appointments, or for questions related to the April 18 Drive, contact Kathy Morrison, kathy_morrison@hmc.edu, extension 18024.

A picture identification, such as a Driver's License, California ID, passport, or Student ID card, and your Social Security Number, are required upon arrival. Drinking plenty of fluids before an appointment is suggested, and donors are strongly advised to consume a meal or snack (fatty foods, coffee and/or caffeine-containing drinks should be omitted) prior to arriving.

FDA guidelines for giving blood and for marrow testing must be followed. Because this blood will be used for cancer patients, guidelines are numerous and are strictly adhered to.
