Accounting majors Anne Siegal and John "Robby" Field, both Class of '07, have been recognized for their accomplishments as econ-accounting students.
Siegal is the recent recipient of a Financial Executive International Scholar award of $2,500, while Field has been awarded $1,000 by the San Bernardino Chapter of the CalCPA Association.
Siegal says she was "truly honored" to have been selected among other qualified applicants for the FEI scholarship, typically presented to outstanding students in the area of finance, and expressed thanks to faculty members Marc Massoud, the Robert A. Day Distinguished Professor of Accounting, who provided her with application materials and a letter of recommendation, as did senior lecturer in economics James Taylor.
Siegal is spending her summer interning with the international tax services department of Price water house Coopers in Orange County, an experience she says benefits her post-graduate plans to become a certified public accountant. Outside the office, she looks forward to spending some of her summer as an extra for film and television projects.
She credits the receipt of her FEI award to "the fine education and personal attention paid to students at CMC."
Field meanwhile says he was "really amazed" he won the CalCPA award, partly because of the sheer number of solid accounting students at CMC. "To have the honor of being picked at the time the CalCPA Association asked [our professors] to nominate good students, was quite unexpected," he said.
Like Siegal, Field also accepted an internship this summer, with Manoa Consulting Groupa small accounting firm in his hometown of Honolulu. He also plans to work for his father's tree and landscaping service, an experience he calls "part hobby and part business" and an excuse "to get outside and have fun with loud equipment."
Post-CMC, Field plans to enroll in graduate school, but hasn't yet decided on a particular career. "CMC makes me love so many things that I haven't decided for sure about anything yet. Eventually, though, I would like to work in my native Hawaii."
