Associate professor of economics Brock Blomberg will discuss The Political Economy of Terrorism at the Marian Miner Cook Athenaeum on Thursday, Sept. 22, addressing such questions as, Why does there seem to be so much terrorism since 9/11? And, Are terrorists targeting the West because of economics, religion, or politics? The public portion of his program begins at 6:45 p.m. Seating is free, and is on a first-come basis.
Blomberg, whose presentation is part of the ongoing series Faculty Ideas in Progress, sponsored by the Athenaeum, has written extensively on the economics of terrorism in journals, books, and newspapers, and has held appointments on the President's Council of Economic Advisors, the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, the Federal Reserve Board of Governors, the International Monetary Fund, and World Bank.
Blomberg graduated magna cum laude from the University of Tampa, and earned his master's and doctorate degrees from Johns Hopkins University.
