Andrew Busch, professor of government, has been named the associate dean of the faculty, effective July 1. As one of two associate deans, Busch will focus on faculty and research development. Associate Dean Amy Kind, associate professor of philosophy and religious studies, will continue to direct curriculum-related issues.
Busch is the author of nine books, including Reagan's Victory: The Presidential Election of 1980 and the Rise of the Right (University Press of Kansas, 2005), as well as more than 20 articles and book chapters. He joined the faculty in 2004, with teaching and research interests including the Reagan presidency, American politics, national public policy, and elections. Busch received his Ph.D. in government from the University of Virginia, and was a faculty member at the University of Denver prior to joining CMC.
Busch replaces Associate Dean of the Faculty Greg Hess, the Russell S. Bock Professor of Public Economics. Hess recently was appointed dean of the faculty-elect and will fill the remaining two years of a three-year term currently held by Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean of the Faculty Jerome Garris, who is stepping down as dean for health reasons.
"During his time at CMC, Andrew Busch has demonstrated that he is an effective and hard-working colleague, as well as respected and well-liked by his students," Hess says. "We look forward to a strong collaboration."
