Media Seeks CMC's Pei for Expertise in China Discussion

Roberts Fellow Minxin Pei P'11, the Tom and Margot Pritzker '72 Professor of Government and director of the Keck Center for International and Strategic Studies at Claremont McKenna College, was the host of a live online discussion about the five prevailing myths regarding China's power.
The conversation was broadcast Jan. 31 on the Washington Post's website. During the session, Pei helped to separate the fact from the fiction concerning China's global reach.

"In many ways, China's decision to join Russia in vetoing the Syria resolution in the United Nations Security Council seems an aberration," Pei wrote. "The veto not only derailed the latest attempt to pressure the Assad regime to end its bloody crackdown, but also damaged China's relations with both the West and the Arab League, which sponsored the resolution."
