The Kravis Leadership Institute will host its annual Leadership Day on Thursday, Sept. 27. The day begins at 11 a.m. with a pre-lunch event at the Marian Miner Cook Athenaeum, where KLI faculty, staff, and student fellows will provide an overview of leadership opportunities at CMC, through KLI. The first 50 students to arrive will receive commemorative Leadership Day T-shirts.
The daylong event will continue with an 11:45 a.m. luncheon. At 12:15, President Pamela Gann will provide opening remarks for a panel discussion by KLI Advisory Board Chair Michael Grindon '76, president of Sony Television Pictures, and KLI board member Jeffrey Klein '75 P'08,'11, chairman of the board of 1105 Media Inc. The panel will conclude at 1:15.
Later in the day, Deloitte Consulting, Human Capital Group, the second-largest professional services firm in the world, will host a special presentation for KLI and Leadership Sequence students at 4 p.m. in the Founders Room, Bauer. CMC and Leadership Sequence alumni Evan Daikoku '07, Katie (Burgess) Hamada '05, and Ben Chambers '06 will provide an overview of the firm and discuss how their Leadership Sequence and other experiences at CMC prepared them for their careers.
Following the presentation is a 5 p.m. private reception for interested students, with featured guest Ronald Heifetz, a prominent contributor to the field of leadership studies, followed by an open reception at 5:30. Dinner begins at 6 p.m., followed by Heifetz's lecture at 6:45.
Research by Heifetz, the King Hussein bin Talal Lecturer in Public Leadership at Harvard and co-founder of the Center for Public Leadership at Harvard's John F. Kennedy School of Government, has focused on building adaptive capacity in societies, businesses, and nonprofit organizations. Adaptive capacity references a person or institution's ability to adjust to and cope with potential damage.
Heifetz is the author of Leadership Without Easy Answers and Leadership on the Line: Staying Alive through the Dangers of Leading, publications that deal exclusively with leadership in modern society.
Program activities will conclude with a question and answer session with Heifetz.
