Rod Camp, the Philip M. McKenna Professor of the Pacific Rim, will discuss Mexico's Military on the Democratic Stage/Civil-Military Relations Under Fox, as guest speaker for the Thursday, Sept. 15 International Place Lunch and Conversation event, honoring Mexico's Independence Day. Mexican food will be served from 11:45 a.m., followed by Camp's address at 12:15. Visitors may use their meal cards; cost is $2 at the door.
Camp, the featured speaker at convocation this month (read more: http://www.claremontmckenna.edu/news/pressreleases/article.asp?article_id=568), has served as a visiting researcher at the Centro de Estudios Internacionales Colegio de Mexico, in Mexico City, and was a scholar-in-residence at the Foreign Service Institute, U.S. Department of State. He has three times been awarded Fulbright Fellowships for studies on Mexico.
In addition to numerous professional activities and publications on Mexico, Camp's teaching interests include Mexican politics, religion and politics in Latin America, and civil-military relations in Latin America. He is a contributing editor to World Book Encyclopedia, and is editor of "Mexican Politics & Government," Handbook of Latin American Studies, for the Library of Congress. Camp also is a frequent consultant to national and international media, including the New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, National Public Radio, and BBC.
