Freeman Visitor Hung-mao Tien on Cross-Straits Relations, March 23

Hung-mao Tien, the Freeman Foundation Visiting Professor of Asian Affairs, will speak at the Marian Miner Cook Athenaeum at 6:45 p.m. on Wednesday, March 23 on The Cross-Straits Relations: Recent Developments and Future Prospects. His lecture is free and open to the public.
With potential conflict in the Taiwan Straits continuing to draw widespread attention, Tien will present an analysis on the current state of the Taiwan-China relations across the Taiwan Straits, examining political, economic, and military features that affect the relationship.
He has served as Taiwan's Minister of Foreign Affairs and its ambassador to the United Kingdom. Tien received a doctorate in political science from the University of Wisconsin, and taught in the United States for many years before returning to his native Taiwan in the 1990s. He is author, editor, and coeditor of numerous publications on subjects related to Taiwan politics, Chinese politics, the Cross-Straits relations, security in Asia, and democracy, and served as a senior policy advisor to former President Lee Teng-hui.
His visit is sponsored by The Keck Center for International and Strategic Studies.
