The 64th Annual Convocation ceremonies will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 31 in McKenna Auditorium. The ceremony will welcome new and returning students, faculty, and other employees of the College to campus. President Pamela Gann will guide the ceremonies, with featured speaker Gretchen Edwalds-Gilbert, associate professor of biology, discussing Mapping the CMC Genome.
In order that students may attend, classes scheduled at 11 a.m. and noon on Tuesday will be postponed.
Ceremonies also include recognition of staff and faculty with 25, 30, 40, and 55 years of service to the College.
Staff with 25 years of service include:
John Faranda, Vice President for Alumni and Parent Relations,
Robin Aspinall, Vice President Business & Administration/Treasurer,
Bonnie Lawry, Director of Student Accounts,
Teresa Ruiz, Assistant Supervisor/Housekeeping, and
Madalyn Sovine, Food Service Worker Supervisor.
Staff and faculty with 30 years of service include:
Jesus Rasura, groundskeeper,
Newton Copp, professor of biology,
Nicholas Warner, professor of literature,and
Morcos Massoud, the Robert A. Day Distinguished Professor of Accounting.
And Stephen Davis, the Russell K. Pitzer Professor of Philosophy Stephen Davis will be recognized for his 40 years of service to the College.
Vice President and Dean of the Faculty Gregory Hess will recognize the following faculty awards:
Bassam K. Frangieh, professor of modern languages, The Glenn R. Huntoon Award for Superior Teaching;
Eric Helland, professor of economics, The G. David Huntoon Senior Teaching Award;
Morcos F. Massoud, the Robert A. Day Distinguished Professor of Accounting, The Presidential Award for Merit; and
Diane Halpern, professor of psychology, The Roy P. Crocker Award for Merit.
The 2010 Exceptional Service Award recipients will also be recognized. Cindi Guimond, associate director of academic affairs, and Bruce Frost, assistant director for Information Systems and Network Services received the 2010 awards in May.
