Robert Donlan, a senior at Claremont McKenna College, has been selected for the 2001-2002 Verizon Academic All-America Men's Basketball First Team, a team of five players chosen from over 300 Division III teams. The award recognizes outstanding student-athletes who have mastered the important balance between academics and athletics.
"He is the most competitive student athlete that I've seen at CMC over the last eight years, both on and off the court," says men's basketball head coach Ken Scalmanini. "He is the most dominant basketball player on the team and will leave an excellent leader. He competes in the classroom as much as he does on the court. He doesn't like to get an A- and he doesn't like to come out of the game for even two minutes. He is a perfectionist."
Donlan, son of Bob and Fran Donlan of San Mateo, Calif., is an economics and psychology double major with a 3.61 cumulative GPA. He was a four-year starting shooting guard on the CMS men's basketball team and served as team captain for the last three years. He was twice named on the Western District Academic First Team.
In his spare time Donlan is a macroeconomics tutor and coaches youth basketball in Claremont, Calif. He is also a self-proclaimed supporter of all CMS athletics.
