CMC Lightens Up

New Retrofit Program Cuts Energy Use Giving new meaning to "green-lighting" environmental initiatives, CMC is now well into the process of slashing energy usage. A program offered by Southern California Edison has flipped the switch on several hundred new light fixtures and lamps that are expected to save the College about $25,000 a year in energy costs.
CMC's Director of Facilities and Campus Services Brian Worley spearheaded the initiative after learning from the Central Facilities Service (CFS) that CMC could take advantage of a special funding program offered by SoCal Edison. Worley says that Edison made available $97,000 worth of switches, T-8 lamps, gymnasium light fixtures and other switch-outs, for a retrofit that took place over several weeks.
The change-outs, he said, affected the Center Court modulars, Bauer North and South, Ducey Gym, Collins Dining Hall, and Story House. "It involved swapping out hundreds of individual fixtures and lamps and changing light switches for cost-saving occupancy sensors."
