The Tyranny of False Choices: A Guide to Authentic Decision-Making

Tue, October 6, 2026
Dinner Program
Rey Ramsey

In his talk, Rey Ramsey will discuss his new book, The Tyranny of False Choices: A Guide to Authentic Decision-Making, which argues that many of the choices presented to us in public life, organizations, and everyday decision-making are unnecessarily limiting. Drawing from his extensive leadership experience across business, investment, philanthropy, government, and community development, Ramsey offers a framework for recognizing false binaries, expanding possibilities, and making decisions rooted in purpose, clarity, and conviction.

Rey Ramsey is a social justice entrepreneur and impact investor whose work spans more than three decades across the nonprofit, public, and private sectors. He brings a rare, integrative lens to some of society’s most complex challenges, from aligning institutional capital with mission to advancing affordable housing as a platform for human flourishing.

As President & CEO of the Nathan Cummings Foundation (NCF), Ramsey plays a central role in fulfilling the foundation’s commitment to align 100% of its endowment with its mission, a milestone that has positioned NCF as a national leader in impact investing.

Ramsey also serves as the Founder and CEO of Centri Capital, an advisory firm focused on designing and executing impact strategies rooted in real estate development and community advancement.

Mr. Ramsey's Athenaeum presentation is co-sponsored by the CARE Center at CMC.
