A memorial service for Claremont McKenna College student William Alan Rothfeld Wagner will be held at 1 p.m. on Sunday, February 11, at Zinda Field. William, 20, died February 7. He was a junior at CMC, an honors student with plans for medical school and a deep love of football, which he played throughout high school and college.
"William was an outstanding leader in every endeavor," says President Pamela Gann. "The sudden loss of such a splendid young person is a tragedy for our entire community, and our thoughts and prayers are with his family."
William died in the early morning hours at Doctors Hospital Montclair, where he was taken by paramedics after collapsing in his room. According to the San Bernardino County Coroner's Office, his death was the result of a cerebral aneurysm.
William, the son of Dr. Alan Frank Rothfeld and Dawn Ellen Wagner Rothfeld, was born September 4, 1986, in Pasadena and raised in Glendale. He attended Clairbourn School and Flintridge Preparatory, where he won All-League and All-Conference team awards as an offensive lineman. In addition to his parents, William is survived by his sister, Christine, brother, Jeffrey, and grandmother, Barbara Wagner.
William's family requests that, in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to CMC in his honor. Details regarding the memorial fund will be announced.
In the event of rain, services will be moved to Ducey Gym. Zinda Field and Ducey Gym are both located north of Sixth and Mills Avenue on the CMC campus. For additional directions: http://www.claremontmckenna.edu/about/directions.asp or a campus map.
