Whale of a Trip Planned for Alumni

It's been said that the Pacific Ocean has no memory, but that won't be the case for CMC and Scripps College alumni who elect to board an expedition ship that will ply the waters of Baja, California, this January.
The fully-equipped expedition ship, Sea Lion, will debark from La Paz, Mexico, on Jan. 13 for a memorable eight-day excursion that will give alumni the opportunity to see whales (and even hear their "vocalizations" via a hydrophone lowered into the water), pelicans and blue-footed boobies. In addition, alumni can snorkel with California sea lions off of Los Islotes and even kayak along shore and hike in the desert.
Cheryl Baduini, assistant professor of biology in the Joint Science Department, will accompany the group. Baduini, who studied marine science/biology at the University of Miami and researched Pacific Ocean ecosystems for her master's work, will be joined by a group of naturalists specializing in Baja flora and fauna. Together the team will provide alumni with an unparalleled educational experience via lectures and informal meetings.
The Sea Lion can accommodate 62 passengers, and organizers expect the trip to sell out. Arrangements include an exclusive charter flight between Los Angeles and La Paz, free for those who book reservations before Aug. 31, 2006.
