Update on Ducey Gym & Roberts Pavilion transition, temporary workout facilities

Dear Campus Community,

Planning for the construction of Roberts Pavilion is well underway, and the ceremonial groundbreaking will take place on Tuesday, February 11, 2014. The important task of moving the daily operations of the CMS Department of Athletics, Physical Education and Recreation from Ducey Gymnasium to temporary facilities began over the summer, and will conclude in January. When students, faculty, and staff return to campus in January, the entire department will be housed in modulars, located on the old tennis courts.

For those currently using the Wells Fitness Center and the Ernest Smith Weight Room, both facilities will be relocated as well. During the construction of Roberts Pavilion, the Fitness Center will be housed in the Frazee Community Room, which is located in the Emett Student Center, next to The Hub. The Weight Room will be located in a temporary facility adjacent to Pritzlaff Field.

For more information on the transition as it becomes available, please visit the Roberts Pavilion transition webpage on the CMS Athletics website, and on the Claremont McKenna College website.

A great deal of thought and planning has gone into this transition. We appreciate the support and cooperation of the campus community as we move forward on this transformative project, which will benefit The Colleges, the CMS Department of Athletics, Physical Education and Recreation, and our students and student-athletes for years to come.

Sincerely,

Michael Sutton Director of Athletics & Physical Education
William B. Arce Professor & George R. Roberts Fellow
