In conjunction with CMC's Alumni Weekend, the Women and Leadership Alliance sponsored a 5-C Negotiation Workshop on Friday, April 27th. The workshop, which attracted students, staff and alumni, targeted negotiation strategies in the areas of compensation, professional development and social interactions in three specialized sessions. Each session was led by two CMC alumni professionals in the respective topic areas. As part of the workshop, attendees also had the opportunity to participate in negotiation simulations based upon scenarios.
The Compensation session led by Meena Patel '92 and Beth Saliba'05, focused on negotiating employment offers to include, identifying the different components of the offer, researching and comparing offers as well as discussing and navigating the adversarial nature of the offer negotiating process. The Professional Development session led by Carol Hartman '86 and Emily Rollins'92, discussed negotiation in the workplace including speaking up, taking risks, and networking, as well as techniques of self promotion. The Social session led by Darcy Harlan '99 and Anna Beninger'09, concentrated on interactions and compromise with family and work colleagues, as well as making the transition from a college social life to a post-college/professional social life.
This event drew students from across the Claremont Colleges and was a successful contribution to alumni weekend's roster of activities.
