Sophomore Elizabeth Hillman Selected for Delegation to Danish Atlantic Youth Seminar

Lisa Hillmann '04 has been selected as a delegate for the Atlantic Council of the United States to attend the Danish Atlantic Youth Seminar in Aalborg, Denmark, in July. The delegation will spend nine days in Denmark attending lectures by senior-level NATO officials, senior-level officers from the Danish Defense Ministry, prominent Danish politicians, journalists, and Defense attaches and counselors from foreign embassies in Copenhagen. The conference also will include a security simulation and visits to military units around Denmark.

Hillmann, an international relations major with a concentration on the European Union, says, "This is a chance to further my studies on the European Union and NATO expansion, and to be exposed to interesting and important people." Additionally this summer, Hillmann has accepted an internship for the European Parliament in Luxembourg, and will spend a semester abroad in Strasbourg, France, in the fall.

CMC government professor P. Edward Haley says he nominated Hillmann for the delegation "because of her deep interest in European questions and her academic preparation in European affairs.

"I also know she'll be a terrific representative of CMC," Haley said. "The opportunity is a precious one, not just because of what she'll learn in the briefings, but because it also opens to her a network of friends and acquaintances among her peers at American and European universities, and among the policy makers she will meet."
