Andrew Busch, the Crown Professor of Government and a George R. Roberts Fellow at CMC, has been named the new director of the Rose Institute of State and Local Government. The Rose Institute specializes in survey research, fiscal analysis and database development, and conducts and publishes research on topics related to government and politics.
Busch currently serves as chairman of the CMC Department of Government, and formerly served as Associate Dean of Faculty from 2006-2009. In 2009, he received the college's Roy P. Crocker Award for Merit, an award given to a professor selected by the faculty for outstanding service to the College.
"I am looking forward to working with the great staff and students at the Rose Institute," says Busch. "There is a long tradition of excellence at the Rose, and it's exciting to become part of that."
A widely known and respected specialist on American government and politics, Busch has authored or co-authored eleven books on American politics, including most recently Epic Journey: The 2008 Elections and American Politics (2009) and The Constitution on the Campaign Trail: The Surprising Political Career of America's Founding Document (2007), along with more than thirty articles and chapters. In 2007, he received a Fulbright fellowship to lecture on American politics at the Diplomatic Academy of Ukraine, and served as the Ann and Herbert Vaughan Fellow in the James Madison Program in American Ideals and Institutions at Princeton University in the 2009-2010 academic year.
A native of Colorado, Busch received his B.A. in Political Science and History from the University of Colorado-Boulder in 1987, and his Ph.D. in Government from the University of Virginia in 1992. He taught at the University of Denver from 1992-2004 before coming to Claremont McKenna College in 2004.
