Production and Discussions Focus On Women in the French Resistance

Tickets are on sale for the Department of Theatre and Dance at Pomona College's production of Sisters in the Resistance, a play exploring the true stories of three women in the French Resistance. Performances are at 8 p.m. Feb. 2325, and at 2 p.m. Feb. 2526, in the Allen Studio Theater on the Pomona College campus.

Adapted and directed by Pomona College professor of theater Tom Leabhart, the play is based on interviews conducted by Monique Saigal, Pomona professor of French, with women who survived the German occupation of France.

In conjunction, two events have been planned in recognition of the play's historic subject matter. The first event, scheduled for 4 p.m. on Feb. 26 in the Frank Dining Hall, will be a roundtable discussion lead by Saigal and featuring Marthe Cohn, a WWII French-Jewish spy in Nazi Germany; CMC Professor John Roth, the Edward J. Sexton Professor of Philosophy at CMC and director of the Center for the Study of the Holocaust, Genocide, and Human Rights; Gabriele Silten, a survivor of the Westerbork Concentration Camp; and Margaret Collins Weitz, noted historian, scholar, and author of the book Sisters in the Resistance. The second event, at 4:15 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 27 in Mason 212A, is a public lecture by author Weitzprofessor emerita of Suffolk University in Bostonon the subject of "Women in the French Resistance."
