Pre-sale tickets for a benefit concert featuring singer Ben Harper and The Innocent Criminals, on behalf of the Claremont Folk Festival, will go on sale to students, staff, and faculty of The Claremont Colleges beginning Wednesday, March 28 at the Bridges Auditorium box office, with a limit of two tickets per ID. Ticket prices are $40 and $50, depending upon seat location. Tickets will then go on sale to the general public at 10 a.m. on Friday, March 30.
Harper's Claremont performance, at 8 p.m. on Friday, May 4, is presented by the Folk Music Center of Claremont and SAGE Productions, and features special guest The Nightwatchman.
Tickets may be purchased from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday, at the Bridges box office, or by phone: 909-621-8032.
Harper's seventh studio album, the double-disc Both Sides of the Gun released on March 20, offers the artist's signature mix of rock, soul, and folk music, while also venturing into new territory. "I was hoping I could come back to the root of my earlier records, the sparseness and intimacy," Harper says, "and also branch out further in a produced sound than ever before."
Harper says that what was most exciting about the sessions for this album was a newfound sense of "absolute fearlessnessjust diving into a song and ripping it wide open, with a lot of one-take vocals and guitar solos that are nasty, loose, raw, immediate."
