From new student orientation to preseason sports practices, the Claremont McKenna College campus was bustling in mid-to-late August with activity as the 2017-18 school year drew closer. The first day of classes was on Tuesday, Aug. 29, and just a few days after that, new seasons began for the majority of Claremont-Mudd-Scripps’ seven fall sports teams.
Volleyball went 3-1 during the opening weekend (Sept. 1-2) of the season at the Pacific Coast Classic hosted in Roberts Pavilion. Both the Stag and Athena cross country teams opened the fall on Sept. 2 with wins in the Nationball Classic in Santa Barbara. Stags Soccer won its first match of the year, a 1-0 victory over La Verne in the SCIAC opener on Sept. 6. Women's soccer and men's water polo have also played their first matches of the season.
Stags Football kicks off 2017 in Portland on Saturday, Sept. 9 at Lewis & Clark (1:30 p.m.). A tailgate party will be held before the football game, so parents and alumni in the area are encouraged to come root on the Stags.
